Telephone rings…it’s 3:25 AM!

You know the routine:  you’re in a sound, blissful sleep and then it happens.  That shrill ring that immediately grabs your attention.  Your eyes pop open, you get that adrenaline rush, and you’re wide awake.  And as you grab for the receiver and say hello, you realize there’s no one there.  So now you’re awake and wondering who could have been dialing your number at 3:25 AM.  And the call was so quick, caller ID didn't pick it up.  Was a family member sick, did a friend have a problem, did the someone who called you pass out?  All those horrible scenarios stream through your mind’s memory card as you toss and turn and look at the clock every 15 minutes, wondering if you can get some sleep before the 5:30 AM alarm goes off.  Face it – it’s not going to happen!

The last time this happened, it lasted for an entire week.  I got a 2:30 AM phone call 5 days in a row.  Yes, I could have left the phone off the hook or turned the ringer off but, what if a family member or friend needed something.  In this case, I suspected that someone was probably calling to wake someone for work and didn’t realize they had the wrong number.  I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt – what can I say.  And, in this instance, since I had a name and number on my caller ID, I did consider returning the ‘favor’ and calling them at 2:30 AM.  The only catch was, I wasn’t about to get myself up at 2:30 to accomplish this deed.

Gourmet Chocolate Covered Pretzels - Thank you Paul!

You can bet I’ll be hitting the sheets early tonight and hoping for uninterrupted sleep.   Thank goodness the chocolate Gods visited the office today.  I certainly needed the sugar!

PS - Please don't call me.

  1. The chocolate covered pretzels would make up for most anything.

  2. There are odd auto-dialers at that time of the morning... someone rings the conference call line in the newsroom once at exactly 2 am. Every day.

I may not always have a chance to say it but I do appreciate your comments. I would love to hear from you and please stop by again!
