Red Tailed Hawk

One of the best parts of the day was viewing this red tailed hawk perched on one of the security cameras at the office.  He's been spotted several times over the last two days and doesn't seem to be the least bit phased by passing trains, traffic, and pedestrians.  Well, I guess, if you had those talons, you wouldn't be phased by much either.

The photos are not exactly the best since they were taken through a coated window and from a distance but that certainly didn't take away from the enjoyment.

Telephone rings…it’s 3:25 AM!

You know the routine:  you’re in a sound, blissful sleep and then it happens.  That shrill ring that immediately grabs your attention.  Your eyes pop open, you get that adrenaline rush, and you’re wide awake.  And as you grab for the receiver and say hello, you realize there’s no one there.  So now you’re awake and wondering who could have been dialing your number at 3:25 AM.  And the call was so quick, caller ID didn't pick it up.  Was a family member sick, did a friend have a problem, did the someone who called you pass out?  All those horrible scenarios stream through your mind’s memory card as you toss and turn and look at the clock every 15 minutes, wondering if you can get some sleep before the 5:30 AM alarm goes off.  Face it – it’s not going to happen!

The last time this happened, it lasted for an entire week.  I got a 2:30 AM phone call 5 days in a row.  Yes, I could have left the phone off the hook or turned the ringer off but, what if a family member or friend needed something.  In this case, I suspected that someone was probably calling to wake someone for work and didn’t realize they had the wrong number.  I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt – what can I say.  And, in this instance, since I had a name and number on my caller ID, I did consider returning the ‘favor’ and calling them at 2:30 AM.  The only catch was, I wasn’t about to get myself up at 2:30 to accomplish this deed.

Gourmet Chocolate Covered Pretzels - Thank you Paul!

You can bet I’ll be hitting the sheets early tonight and hoping for uninterrupted sleep.   Thank goodness the chocolate Gods visited the office today.  I certainly needed the sugar!

PS - Please don't call me.

Super Moon, Super Cold, Super Windy

I, along with some friends and about 8 other brave souls fought the wind and cold and made our way to the local high school last night to get a good view of the Super Moon.  We all thought it would be great to see it

Super Moon - March 29, 2011
from the highest point in town but we probably would have done better down by the river at a low point.  I think it would have been much more dramatic, bigger and brighter - I certainly know it would have been less windy.  Even weighted down, you could not keep a tripod from shaking.  We did our best and now we'll have to wait 18 years for the next event.  I'll have to remember to scout out a lower, more protected spot for 2029.

Can you feel Spring?

Today, when I walked out of the office at 5:30, I could feel Spring.  It wasn't there for me at 7 AM in the rain and dark but it was there at 5:30 PM.  You could smell it, you could feel it, and the trees along the walkway to the parking deck were starting to flower.  I feel an urgency all around - like I need to get things done, I need to prepare.  I hope spring lasts long enough so we realize it was here and we had time to enjoy it.

Streets of New York

I've been disconnected from my camera for a while and it's an uncomfortable feeling.  My P&S 'friend' is with me everyday but I've had too many distractions.  Is this writers block but with a camera?  Maybe a change in the weather or maybe a time change will light a fire.  Maybe reviewing photos from the past will inspire.  I hope so.
